Barbara’s years as a Jazz Entertainer brings a great deal of personal experience that cannot be taught in books, but from experience. Since her beginnings with the UARKettes, USO, headlining at Las Vegas, New York and Japan, her dream has to been to share this experience with young People. Thus, the creation of The Mashburn Scholarship Foundation.
The Barbara Mashburn Scholarship program (BMSP) teaches more than just music to the Foundation recipients. They learn budgeting, marketing, choreography, lighting, sound, staging, costume design, stage set design, interviews, advertising and much more. They learn what it takes to prepare and perform a Broadway Production. The primary showcase and fundraising opportunities are the spring and Fall Concerts. The scholars donate their time throughout the community, singing for various nursing homes, hosting music workshops for children and a variety of community service activities that work around their requirements at the University of Arkansas with Education being their FIRST priority.
The Mashburn Foundation Board Managers and Scholarship Recipients know the importance of the arts in the lives of young people. Some of the youth of the Northwest Arkansas area, however, do not have the means to experience the arts without the support of local business, corporations, individuals and organizations. Funds that are contributed to the "Arts for Kids" program go to purchasing tickets for area schoolchildren to attend the concert. This gives local children the opportunity to see and hear the character and integrity of some of the brightest, best students attending University of Arkansas. Your support towards the UARKettes Vocal List helps these students throughout the year attend concerts and programs sponsored by the Mashburn Scholarship Foundation.
